Support Video
This support video is designed to help students acclimate to the flipped classroom, as well as help parents to see the changed perspective in the learning model.
Reflection
This video assignment was really helpful for me because I have worked vigorously to begin flipping my actual classroom. I have talked my 7th grade team members to allow us to use the flipped model with our intermediate intervention group of students during the whole month of April. What I have planned is that students will use the website that I have been building (for a centralized location of resources) to work at their own pace to master mathematics concepts that they have already had instruction on during this school year, but that they are still having difficulty in mastering. My plan is to take our students into our iPad lab so that they can have free movement for grouping, a more open area than the classroom, and enough technology for all students in the room at once. I have created my video as an explanation to students as to why I am giving them this option rather than the traditional model in the classroom. My support video was chosen to let them see their future in the flipped classroom, but also to allow parents to see the demands of the classroom environment their student will be in. My next step is to create a video that walks parents and students through navigating the Online Math Support website before they begin on April 1st. I have a very positive outlook on the use of the flipped classroom with most of my parents, so I didn't over do the introduction in a parent focused manner. My largest motivation was to "talk" kids into owning their own learning and taking charge of their own success.
