Lecture and Preparation for Class
Activity Reflection
It has taken me awhile to begin to wrap my head around what a flipped classroom video would be like for me. I think in this one, I created my ideal beginning type of video. It seemed at the beginning of the semester, that this part of the course would be rather difficult, but it came to be that it was the more difficult section for me. I have been experimenting with the flipped model in my classroom, a bit over the last 2 weeks. I have found that students really like being able to come into the classroom and work together immediately. I have been starting the class with about 10 - 15 minutes of warm-up, debrief, prior knowledge, and general questions about difficulties. Then I move to the activity that builds off the base assignment that was given at the end of the video. This video was an attempt at preparing a base video that starts the thinking for the next day, whereas I think my previous videos felt less preemptive in nature, and rather reflexive to student learning. It is my opinion thus far that this is a better way to promote cooperative learning where students build knowledge bases in the content. I know have begun to plan and map out how to pull together the videos in this manner, rather than the way I had begun the semester. I truly love the flipped classroom model. I am now trying to refine it in my craft.
